The Diplomatic Dog Fundamentals

Please note this package is available in two formats: Private Lessons and In-Residence Training

Whether you have an enthusiastic adolescent, a shy, fearful rescue or an out-of-control adult with bad habits, this package for the budding Diplomatic Dog (ages 5 months and up) will help you establish the common language of basic obedience that you use to guide and influence your dog’s behavior. The process of teaching the obedience exercises will help you create the foundation that then allows you to address nuisance behaviors, such as leash reactivity (lunging, barking, pulling), jumping up, bolting out the door, barking, chewing, countersurfing, general misbehavior or anything else that's making life with your dog challenging. This package covers:

The Foundation Exercises:

  • Heel, sit/stay, down/stay, automatic sit, come when called
  • Go to place
  • Drop/release
  • all taught with both 6" and 15" leashes (for distance work)

Leadership Practices:

  • Creating protocols to establish rules and structure
  • Addressing overexcitement/exuberance
  • Appropriate greetings
  • How your behavior affects your dog’s behavior

Kathleen broke down our goals into manageable chunks, and together we mastered a long list of skills we use everyday. She always demonstrated the training technique first, and coached me along as I learned her techniques. She returned my phone calls and emails between lessons each week when I had questions, helping me stay on track and keeping me from getting frustrated. It quickly became obvious how easy it is to train a dog when you have the right person guiding you.
